Frequently asked questions: Online resources

Can anyone add resource web links?

Yes. The premise behind One Place for Special Needs is that we can collectively help each other. If you find a good resource, don’t keep it to yourself.

How do I add a resource?

Click on Add info and choose Add an online resource.  Copy and paste the web page url (address). Come up with a title. This can be the title of the website page or you can think of something that identifies it better for families. In the description tell everyone why this is a good piece of information. Finally enter tags (key words) that you think will be helpful.

What are tags?

Tags are keywords that help people find your information. For example you, might add a web resource called “Accommodations for students with ADD.” Some tags you might consider are ADHD school issues and ADHD classroom accommodations.

Can I edit existing resources?

Yes. You are encouraged to make every resource easier for families to find. In the above example you might read the link and determine that parents of those with learning disabilities would benefit from the information. You can edit the tag to include learning disability school issues.

Can I keep track of all my resources?

Yes.  Click on Update info and choose My online resources.  You'll see all the resources you've added. It will also appear on your profile page so your friends and fellow members can view your recommended web resources.

How do I bookmark a resource?

Rather than bookmark to your browser you can use our “Bookmark this resource” button. This puts all the information you find at One Place for Special Needs in one place. Click on Bookmarks to access those resources.

Why should I rate a resource?

Your 1-5 star rating makes it easier for families to find the best information first.  You can even sort your online resource search results by rating.

How do you ensure there is no tampering of information?

While anyone has the ability to add and edit information, we take malicious tampering very seriously. No one can add information at One Place for Special Needs without being a registered user. Your username is “attached” to the information that you add. This keeps everyone honest. And if someone did attempt to tamper with any information it would be spotted on our end fairly quickly. All new information and updates are checked daily for content and we can see the users who have made those updates. This applies to each section of the website. Any members engaging in malicious tampering will be permanently removed from the website.

How do I report a problem with a web link?

If a web link has expired, you can click “Report a problem” on the search results page.
