I can't believe we have reached our one year anniversary at One Place for Special Needs. Thanks everyone for being so supportive. Overall the response has been, "Awesome website!" from both families and professionals. I only wish Nina and I could clone ourselves so we could reach other states more quickly. Please drop me an email and let me know how you like the site or if you have suggestions to make it better.

We'll continue encouraging organizations and businesses to add their info here.  Help us by spreading the word about One Place for Special Needs to other individuals, families, educators and professionals. This is very much a grass roots effort! Thanks again, Dawn

For children with special needs, Halloween can be confusing and even frightening. By preparing for this holiday ahead of time, you will help your child have a positive experience.

Practice ringing the doorbell and saying trick or treat. Show your child a mask. Put it on and take it off. Help your child understand that the people he sees are kids just like him and not really monsters. If your child doesn't want to trick or treat, have her pass out the candies. Here are some links that show the steps involved for trick or treating.

Be a contributor to our website! Not only can you find local resources, you can also recommend them too.  It's easy to do!  Let's do our part to help families this month by recommending a pediatrician that has been patient and sensitive to your son or daughter's special needs.

Just click on Add a local resource and choose the Healthcare category. Fill out what you know and select "I found this resource and want to share it with others."  Don't forget to write a review too!

For the child who is anxious about dressing up for Halloween, here is an alternative to wearing a costume. Let others know your trick or treater is still working on his or her Halloween skills. Find these and other products that highlight qualities and personality rather than disability labels at our Awareness with Attitude CafePress page.

Your quote of the month:
"Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn."
