Then help us spread the word about One Place for Special Needs. Print out our mini-fliers for your next group meeting, disability fair or to pass out to educators and other families. Thanks! Things look a little different when you're a small child! Filmed from just 40 inches high, children can come along on a trip to the real dentist's office and see from Emily's point of view exactly what things look like. They'll meet the dentist and hygienist, see the tools they use, ride in the dentist's chair and get excited about going to their own dentist appointment. This DVD allows the anxious child to become comfortable with the idea of visitng the dentist in the safety of their own home. Adapted books - Links to adapted books online. Know of more? Of the 36 children who died from the H1N1 virus, 67% had at risk medical conditions such as asthma or had disabilities such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopmental conditions, according to the U.S Centers for Disease Control and prevention. Maggie Fox, the Health and Science Editor at Reuter's wrote that CDC director Dr. Thomas Frieden said, "In two-thirds of those, the child had at least one severe underlying illness or underlying disability...cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, long-standing respiratory or cardiac problems." You can read more on the following links: Our Wish List has worked out so well that I've expanded it to our Events and Products sections. Now renamed Alerts, you can click on the types of local resources, events and products that interest you. As new information is added to the One Place for Special Needs website, you'll receive an email if there's a match. You can choose to receive daily, weekly and monthly updates and there's a suspend option if you go on vacation. Click here to learn what a timesaver our alerts can be for you! Our Alerts feature takes the place of our monthly event email. For those of you who received that email, your new event alert has defaulted to monthly updates so you should see no interruption of service. But now you have the option of choosing the type of events you would like to see (e.g. conferences, group meetings, social skills groups, workshops). Search our directory with these subcategories too! For those of you who offer workshops, meetings, fundraisers, etc. don't forget to add them to our Event section. It's the easiest and quickest way to reach everyone in your area!
Not only can you find local resources, you can also recommend them too. It's easy to do! Let's do our part to help families this month by recommending a dentist that has been patient and sensitive to your child's special needs. Just click on Add a local resource and choose the Oral health category. Fill out what you know and select "I found this resource and want to share it with others." Don't forget to write a review too! Great shirts for different learners. Remind teachers that accommodations do work! Also see our shirts, stickers and items for auditory learners, viual learners and tactile learners. Find these and other products that highlight qualities and personality rather than disability labels at our Awareness with Attitude CafePress page. Your quote of the month: Dawn Villarreal |
